ISRAEL: Def Min-See 'Eye-To-Eye' w/PM On Iran Response, Will Be 'Precise'

ISRAEL

Speaking to Channel 12, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant says "We are not interested in opening an additional front and another war," and that the response to Iran's ballistic missile attack will be "precise and deadly".

  • These comments would appear to chime with earlier reports suggesting that the Israeli gov't is looking to strike against Iranian military targets (seen more as 'fair game') than the high profile oil sector or nuclear development sites that could further inflame tensions with Tehran.
  • Gallant says that he, PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi see "eye-to-eye" on the issue and the nature of response to Iran's attack on 1 Oct.
  • Says that Hamas has lost its military capability and that 'Iran cannot rehabilitate it'. Recent headlines suggest the US has sought to pressure Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza or risk an arms embargo (see' SECURITY: US Threatens To Withhold Weapons If Israel Doesn't Address Gaza Crisis' 1404BST). Yet to be any confirmation of this, with Sky News Arabia reporting that according to a Pentagon official, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin 'never hinted at banning arms supplies to Israel'. The claim appears to come down to requirements to comply w/US law, rather than international law.
