Italian Power Demand in May Rose 1.9% YoY

Power consumption in Italy in May rose by 1.9% to 24.7TWh, while adjusted figures – seasonality, calendar days and weather effects - showed demand was stable on the year, Terna said.

  • Industrial consumption from energy-intensive companies increased by 1.4% year on year.
  • Renewables generation in May accounted for a share of 52.5% of total demand, compared with 42.3% a year earlier, especially driven by solar PV output.
  • Power demand in January-May rose by 1.1% on the year, or 0.2% for the adjusted value.
  • Power imports in May covered 15.3% of total consumption, with net imports in January-May increasing by 5.6% on the year.
