Italy could deploy 2GW of additional hydro capacity if the EU allows for the cancellation of auctions related to previous concessions, market participants said, cited by Montel.

  • The capacity would come from maintenance and upgrades of previous units, Head of Assoidroelettrica Paolo Tagliol said.
  • “Forced concession auctions are blocking maintenance,” Tagliol added.
  • The technology covers around 20% of its domestic demand
  • Italian hydropower reserves decreased for the third consecutive week to 3.64TWh as of the end of calendar week 31, down from 3.73TWh the week before, Entso-E data showed.
