Italy Plan to Meet EU 15% Gas Demand Reduction

NATURAL GAS

Italy plans to reduce gas consumption by approximately 5.3bcm in its national savings plan.

  • Under the government plan announced on Tuesday they aim to make savings by turning down heating in apartment blocks and public buildings from 20 to 19 degrees Celsius and down to 17C for industries premises. The heating will also be on for an hour a less each day.
  • They hope the measures will reduce consumption by 3.2bcm in August to March. They also aim to make another 2.1bcm saving by use of alternative fuels for power generation.
  • Other measures encouraging lower consumption by individual users and businesses could bring the overall reduction to 15% in line with EU plans.
