Italy To Ban One Batch Of AZ Vaccine Following 2  Deaths

Wires and social media giving more detail on the earlier headline that Italy was to ban the use of one batch of the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine following 'notifications of serious side effects'.

  • New headlines alleging that a naval officer and a policeman died after receiving a vaccine from the same batch.
  • Comes after several EU countries halted the rollout of the AZ vaccine earlier today saying that it had caused dangerous cases of blood clotting.
  • Yesterday, the EMA issued a statement saying that there was 'no specific issue' with a batch of the vaccine from Austria tested in relation to the issue and that "The information available so far indicates that the number of thromboembolic events in vaccinated people is no higher than that seen in the general population."
  • Norway and Iceland have also now stopped the rollout of the AZ vaccine in addition to Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Luxembourg.
