Japan Aug Machine Orders -2.4% M/M; 1st Drop In 2 Months

  • Japan's core machinery orders, excluding those for power generation equipment and ships, dropped from last 0.9% m/m gain to 2.4% m/m decrease in August, posting the first fall in two months.
  • Orders from non-manufacturing sectors increased 7.1% m/m, covering from last 9.5% m/m decrease reported last month.
  • Orders from the manufacturing sector, fell 13.4% m/m, quickly down from the 6.7% m/m gain in July.
  • The outlook for the July-September period is for a rise of 11.0%, compared with the 4.6% increase over the previous quarter.
  • Japan Cabinet Office cuts its assessment on machinery orders saying the recovery move is "marking time".
