Jet Fuel Demand To Tick Up Despite Travel Peak Approaching

Demand for passenger jet fuel is set to grow despite the summer season nearing a close, according to BloombergNEF.

  • Implied jet fuel demand is on course for a weekly gain of 0.5% to 6.72m b/d, based on flights scheduled Aug. 8-14. Jet fuel demand from domestic and international flights is poised for growth of 0.1% and 0.8%, respectively, compared to the previous week.
  • Jet fuel demand will rise on the week in all regions except for Latin America, with the overall rise led by Asia and the MENA region.
  • In China, the number of domestic flights is set to rise by 1.8% on the week, although such growth may not materialise as China frequently cuts several thousand flights up to a week before the scheduled departure.
