JET FUEL: Mega Airport Expansions to Boost Jet Fuel Demand: IATA

JET FUEL

The rush to build mega airports in Dubai and Singapore to serve over 100m passengers per annum will boost jet fuel demand, but the outlook for SAF is more mixed, IATA’s chief economist said, cited by Platts.

  • Dubai plans to build the new Al Maktoum airport and have a capacity of up to 260m passengers per year within a decade, five times the current capacity.
  • The UAE has no specific news on how it will develop the use of SAF in operations. The UAE does have a voluntary target for 1% locally produced SAF use for its national airlines by 2031
  • Meanwhile, Singapore plans to expand its Changi airport from 50m to 90m passengers per year, which will boost both jet fuel and SAF demand.
  • Further SAF demand is expected in Singapore due to the way its government has planned progressive SAF targets
  • Falling crude prices have trickled down to jet fuel, with Platts FOB Singapore at $83.37/b, the lowest since Dec. 2021.
