Jiji Survey Shows Kishida Cabinet's Approval Rating At Record Lows

Approval of Prime Minister Kishida's Cabinet fell to an all-time low in the latest Jiji poll, corroborating the findings of recent surveys from other outlets.

  • The approval rating was 32.3%, down 12.0pp from the previous month, reaching worst levels since the inauguration of the Kishida administration last October. The disapproval rate rose 11.5pp to 40.0%, exceeding the approval rate for the first time.
  • When asked about their attitudes to the sate funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, 51.9% of respondents said they opposed it, while just 25.3% said they were in favour.
  • Large majorities expressed disappointment with PM Kishida's handling of his Liberal Democratic Party's ties to the Unification Church and with the explanations given by the Prime Minister and ruling party lawmakers.
  • The LDP remained the most preferred political party, picked by 22.4% of respondents, with other parties polling in low single digits at best. The share of people who said they did not support any political party edged higher to 59.1%.
