  • U.S. housing starts reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.496 million in July, far above forecasts for a saar of 1.245 million, according to figures released Tuesday by the Census Bureau. Starts were up 22.6% compared to June's upward revised 1.220 million pace.
  • From a year earlier, starts were up 23.4%.
  • Building permits were up 18.8% in July, reaching a saar of 1.495 million when markets had expected a saar of 1.326 million. From a year earlier, permits were up 9.4%.
  • Completions rose 3.6% in July, climbing to an annualized pace of 1.280 million from 1.236 million in June.
