UK: Just days ahead of the general election, the news cycle, polling and surveys
show how unpredictable the outcome is set to be.
- PM Johnson still dealing with the fallout from yesterday's incident of
refusing to look at a picture of a child forced onto the floor for a lack of
beds at Leeds General Infirmary. This was followed by bungled attempt to send
Health Minister Matt Hancock to the hospital, with journalists then spreading a
false story that a Labour activist had punched a Conservative aide.
- These sort of late events could prove crucial as undecided voters make up
their minds in the last 48 hours before polls open.
- Opinion polling last night: SavantaComRes: CON: 43% (+1) LAB: 36% (=) LDM: 12%
(+1) BXP: 3% (-1) GRN: 2% (=) (data from Remain United MRP, not previous
standard methodology poll, which had 8pt Con lead).
- YouGov Wales: CON: 43%(+1) LAB: 36%(=) LDM: 12%(+1) BXP: 3%(-1) GRN: 2%(=)
- Political Studies Association's survey of 380 'experts' has 50% calling a Con
maj, 50% saying a hung parliament. Median prediction, seats: Con 326, Lab 231,
LDem 23, SNP 45, DUP 8, SF 7, Others 2, Grn 1, SDLP 1
