Koruna Loses Ground, Paring Yesterday's Advance

EUR/CZK has retraced the bulk of its yesterday's dynamic sell-off to last change hands +0.074 at 24.594. From a technical standpoint, bulls look for a move through Jan 2 high of 24.867. On the flip side, a sustained break below the 50-EMA (24.518) would open up Dec 25 low of 24.373.

  • CNB's Jan Prochazka said that the central bank will proceed "very cautiously" with its rate-cutting cycle while assessing the situation on a meeting-by-meeting basis. He noted that "we can halt [the easing cycle] at any time, we can accelerate it at any time".
  • Czechia's unemployment rate ticked higher to 3.7% in December from 3.5% prior, matching the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey.
  • The CNB's international reserves increased to $147.4bn in December from the revised $142.5bn a month before.
  • CZGB curve has twist steepened to a degree, with yields last seen -6.7bp to +3.2bp.
