Kremlin Says 'No Discussion' Of Nationwide Mobilisation

  • Kremlin: [on proposals for nationwide mobilisation]: 'There is no discussion of this at present.'
  • When asked about nationalist criticism of the war in Ukraine, where a major counteroffensive from Kyiv has seen Russian forces in full retreat in some areas, Kremlin states 'Russians support President Putin', and that 'legal criticism is fine'.
  • There has been criticism emanating from nationalist camps in Russia, not arguing against the war in Ukraine, but arguing that the military has been too restrained in not launching full offensives against civilian targets in Ukraine, including the lack of use of nuclear weapons. For Putin this criticism could even prove useful, allowing him to paint himself as a 'moderate' for not pursuing the military objectives of far-right nationalists.
  • Following skirmishes between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kremlin states that 'Putin is doing all he can to enable de-escalation' between the two countries.
