Lithuania Preparations for EU Sync Near Completion

Lithuanian’s preparation for syncing with the EU power network and disconnecting from the post-soviet BRELL system is “almost 100%,” the energy minister Dainius Kreivys said today.

  • The most important step right now is to complete the necessary coordination procedures with Entso-E, bring together Latvia and Estonia as well inform the necessary parties of a non-renewal of the BRELL contract, according to Kreivys.
  • The Balic TSOs will send the notice of the non-renewal on 7 August.
  • The electricity systems of the Baltic countries are ready for an early 2025 sync, according to Kreivys. And in February 2025 a general test of isolated work will begin, with EU sync soon after.
