Lithuanian Litgrid Connects Third Domestic Solar Plant

POWER

Lithuanian TSO Litgrid has begun trial operations for a 22MW domestic solar farm owned by firm Ignitis Renewables, although commercial operations are anticipated in 2025, according to the Lithuanian Energy Ministry.

  • The project will have its permitted capacity at 17MW and is near a 15MW onshore wind farm in southwest Lithuania – which has its permitted capacity also at 15MW.
  • This will be Lithuania’s third solar park connected to the grid and its first hybrid project, the Ministry said.
  • The solar and wind permitted capacity in Lithuania is currently 2.8GW, accounting for about half of the country's total electricity generation capacity.
  • The country estimates that in 2030 4.4GW of solar and 5GW of wind will be able to be connected to the grid due to a rise in consumption and export capability.
