Lithuanian Pres: 'Morally Harmful' Not To Link EU Funds w/Polish Law Ruling

Following a meeting between Polish President Andrzej Duda and his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda, the latter stated that it would be 'morally harmful' not to link the issue of Poland's constitutional tribunal ruling on the primacy (or lack thereof) of EU law and EU structural funding sent to Poland.

  • Poland losing potential EU allies swiftly at present amidst the furore over the Polish court's ruling. At the Council summit later this week, Polish gov't will be looking to Hungary for support. Given many important rulings at the Council level have to be approved unanimously, Hungary and Poland can frequently veto measures intended to punish one another.
