LNG: Asia and Middle East LNG Market Share Rose to 53% in Q3 2024

Asia and the Middle East LNG market share increased in Q3 2024 as imports to Europe dropped, according to ICIS.

  • Europe's market share fell from 25% in Q3 2023 to 19% in Q3 2024 amid healthy underground storage levels ahead of winter.  Gas in store entered the summer season at relatively high levels following last year's mild winter.
  • East Asia (Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan) market share rose from 50% in Q3 2023 to 53% in Q3 2024 with year-on-year increases from all four countries.
  • Southeast Asia's market share rose from 7% to 8% and the Middle East's from 3% to 5%, driven by Egypt imports.
