LNG: Crown LNG Hopes for FID on UK LNG Terminal in Q2 2025

LNG

Crown LNG said it hopes to take FID on a new 5mtpa LNG import facility at Grangemouth, Scotland in Q2 2025, according to ICIS.

  • It had previously hoped the project would take FID by the end of 2024. The company would need to secure around 3mtpa of long-term capacity deals to proceed with the project.
  • The new terminal in the UK could offer some extra optionality for periods of peak demand.
  • The UK is a good candidate for a new terminal with growing demand due to declining gas production and the desire to reduce dependency on pipeline supplies from Europe, CEO Swapan Kataria previously said.
  • Utilisation at UK import terminals is often below capacity during lower demand periods such as summer due to limited seasonal gas storage capacity.
