LNG: Egypt Seeks 20 LNG Cargoes for Delivery in Q4

LNG

Egypt is seeking to buy 20 cargoes of LNG from October to December as the summer imports continue into the winter season, according to Bloomberg sources.

  • State-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation issued a tender for 17 cargoes for delivery to the floating import terminal at Ain Sukhna and a further three cargoes delivered into Aqaba, Jordan.
  • Egypt has purchased over 20 cargoes to date through Q3. 80% of Egypt’s LNG imports so far have come from the US.
  • The first LNG imports towards the winter season since 2018 is driven by rapidly declining gas production in Egypt and after an unusually hot summer. Gas output from the Zohr field in the Mediterranean is down by about a third since 2019.
  • LNG imports from the previous exporter have this year risen to the highest level since 2018.
