LNG: Global LNG Imports and Supply Both Rise 3% in Week to Sept. 15

Global LNG demand rose 3% in the week to Sept. 15 to 8.05m metric tons with an increase in imports to NW Europe and Italy to the highest since late May, according to BNEF.

  • An increase in European imports by 0.36m tons on the week was driven by higher imports to the UK and the Netherlands.
  • The increase offset a drop of 0.32m tons w/w to Japan while imports to South Asia rose due to a gain of 0.17m tons to India in the week.
  • Sept. 1-15 deliveries into mainland China exceeded 2023 levels by 19% while South Korea imports were 18% higher y/y.
  • Global LNG supply also increased by 3% from the previous week to 7.70m tons with a 0.17m tons increase from both Australia and the US but a 0.14m tons decline from Qatar.
  • US supply so far in September is flat year-on-year as Hurricane Francine passed through the US Gulf Coast.
