LNG: Japanese Utilities Increase LNG Stocks 3.66% w/w

LNG stockpiles held by Japanese utilities increased 3.66% w/w to 1.98m tons in the week to Aug. 11, according to data released by the trade ministry.

  • Stocks rose from the lowest since April 14 at 1.91m tons the previous week.
  • Storage was below the five year average of 2.02m tons for the end of August but up 15.1% from 1.72m tons a year earlier.
  • Japan’s LNG imports have been steadily rising after the country’s hottest July on record with electricity demand reaching a two year high last week. Japan imported 12% more LNG in early August compared to last year, according to BNEF.
