LNG: LNG Bunker Market Finding Strong Demand: Platts

Traders in the bunker market have reported strong demand of late, although the market remains structurally bearish and prices are likely to cool, Platts said.

  • LNG bunker fuel continues to be at a premium to VLSFO in Rotterdam at 47 cents/Gj.
  • On an outright basis, LNG bunker fuel was assessed at $14.52/MMBtu last week in Rotterdam, and $14.63/MMBtu in Barcelona.
  • Trade sources said LNG remains the dual-fuelled vessels amid logistical costs of switching fuels.
  • "It is not good to keep warming up and cooling down the tanks. The process is time-consuming. People do not just switch back and forth when the price changes," an Atlantic-based trader told Platts.
