Loadshedding Remains Suspended, Absa M'fing PMI On Tap

  • The Sunday Times reported that the the government is preparing for diplomatic backlash from the US and Europe over its decision to bring a case against Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over claims of genocide in Gaza. Pretoria is seeking an interim order by ICJ that would call on Israel to halt its military operation. The first hearing has been scheduled for January 11 and 12.
  • Eskom announced that "as a result of he sustained improved generating capacity and sufficient emergency reserves, loadshedding will remain suspended until further notice". Any significant changes will be communicated in due course.
  • South Africa's net reserves increased to $5690bn in December from $56.32bn prior, according to the latest data published by the SARB.
  • Absa Manufacturing PMI will cross the wires at 09:00GMT/11:00SAST. The index printed at 48.2 in November.
