MNI Gilt Week Ahead: External Drivers This Week

  • This week is likely to see domestic UK events take a bit of a back seat with the MPC’s quiet period coming into effect. We do receive final PMIs but the market will be more concerned with the ISM services print from the US (on Tuesday) and the US employment report (on Friday). The last major data release next week will see UK labour market data released.
  • As we noted last week, there has been a notable increase in MPC commentary recently – and MPC members have been very much delivering a coordinated message of risks to rates in the short-term are to the upside and that rates will be higher for longer than the market expects.
