May Trade Balance Due At 1600BST/1100ET

  • May trade data will be released at 1600BST(1100ET) today, with the Bloomberg consensus for a narrowing of the trade deficit to $725mn, from $1.1bn in April. May imports figures will also cross at the same time, with consensus there for a dip to $5.61bn, dragged by a slowdown in consumption imports.

  • Next week, the data calendar is relatively light, with only June industrial and retail confidence figures due on Wednesday. After that, focus will turn to the next BanRep monetary policy meeting, scheduled for July 31. The latest BanRep economists survey showed that analysts expect the central bank to deliver another 50bp cut this month, before stepping up the easing pace to 75bp from September.
