MEXICO: Judges Vote on Judicial Reform Strike, Pemex Union Protests

MEXICO
  • Mexico’s National Association of Magistrates and Judges (JUFED) is expected to vote on a proposal to strike, scheduled for August 21, over government-proposed judicial reforms. The vote comes following Friday’s news that lawmakers from Morena submitted a reform plan to congress, officially kicking off the effort to approve the controversial overhaul.

  • Separately, labour union UNTyPP holds a demonstration outside the Mexico City offices of state-owned oil firm Pemex to protest working conditions starting at 8am Mexico City time.
