MEXICO: President Sheinbaum to Discuss Investment with CEOs

  • President Claudia Sheinbaum and Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard are expected to attend a meeting of the US-Mexico CEO Dialogue to discuss investment opportunities with leaders of different companies. We noted that late last week, Finance Minister Rogelio Ramírez de la O met with CEOs of JP Morgan and Blackrock in New York, seemingly signalling that the new federal government intends to be very proactive in seeking new investment in Mexico.
  • Regarding reforms, the Lower House of Congress approved in general terms a set of electoral reforms proposed by President Sheinbaum regarding the election of the country’s federal judges set for next year.
    • The business community’s concerns over the judicial reform are helping guide Washington’s approach to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s two-week old administration, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said in an interview.
  • Separately, three workers at a Texas refinery owned by Pemex plan to file a lawsuit saying the company was negligent in an incident that left two dead and multiple people injured last week, according to statement from an attorney representing the workers.
