MEXICO: Sheinbaum Names Calleja as new CFE CEO

  • President-elect Sheinbaum announced the appointment of Emilia Calleja as the next chief executive officer of state utility Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the first woman to take the role. In a potential nod to policy continuity, Calleja is currently CEO of one of the utility’s subsidiaries, CFE Generacion. One analyst noted that “Calleja is well-regarded within CFE and has extensive knowledge of the company’s operations and processes”.
  • Mexico reported 166 investment announcements from private companies this year through July 31 for a total $48.4 billion, the economy ministry said in a statement Monday. It is worth noting that Economy Minister Raquel Buenrostro will speak at an event about the role of small businesses in the supply chain of the high-tech medical devices sector. This is expected at 10am Mexico City time.
