Mexico’s Gasoline & Diesel Imports Reach 2024 High in June

Mexico’s imports of gasoline and diesel imports in June rose to its highest level in 2024, according to Bloomberg.

  • Mexico imported 539k b/d of gasoline and 287k b/d of diesel, a rise of 3% and 16% respectively on the month.
  • The rise in gasoline imports has been driven by private companies, with Pemex actually cutting their imports by 5% on the month to 391k b/d.
  • The Mexican government under outgoing President ‘AMLO’ established a goal of self-sufficiency for domestic gasoline and diesel demand.
  • However, multiple projects to achieve that goal have faced delays, including the new 340k b/d Olmeca (Dos Bocas) refinery, which have hampered that ambition.
