Mixed In Asia After Fresh Highs For The S&P 500

Fresh all-time highs for the S&P 500 and a light uptick in e-minis generally provided a bid for the major regional Asia-Pac indices on Wednesday.

  • U.S. fiscal and Chinese liquidity matters continue to garner most of the interest, in addition to Sino-U.S. tensions, in what has been a headline-light session.
  • The Hang Seng didn't open this morning, owing to local weather issues, although Hong Kong equity trade is expected to open this afternoon.
  • Chinese equities underperformed, with familiar questions doing the rounds re: Sino-U.S. trade relations, in addition to fresh warning shots re: U.S. college investments in Chinese companies and closures of the Hong Kong-China stock connect lines owing to the aforementioned weather issues in Hong Kong.
  • Nikkei 225% +0.2%, CSI 300 -0.7%, ASX 200 +0.9%.
  • S&P 500 futures +3, DJIA futures +21, NASDAQ 100 futures +5.
