MNI BRIEF: BOJ Amamiya: Timely Decision On Extending Facility

TOKYO (MNI)

Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Masayoshi Amamiya said Wednesday that the BOJ continues to carefully watch the virus's impact on the economy and will decide on whether and when to extend its lending facilities in a timely manner.

Amamiya also said the BOJ's measures are producing the intended effect but that the bank "must pay attention to downside risks to economic activity and prices."

Referring to the BOJ's plan to introduce a special deposit facility that will pay additional interest on the current account balances of regional financial institutions that meet certain requirements, he said that all regional institutions must ensure adequate capital and profitability.
