MNI BRIEF: China, EU Should Work To Push Investment Agreement

MNI (Singapore)

China and the European Union should overcome any issues with the Comprehensive Agreement of Investment, with the outcome of the next round of negotiations between China and the U.S. possibly encouraging Brussels to push forward the deal, said Huo Jianguo, senior fellow with Center for China & Globalization (CCG) at a forum on Tuesday.

China should be more proactive engaging with Germany and France, including expanding imports of Germany’s green equipment and French airline industry goods to show goodwill, suggested Huo, who’s also a former head of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, affiliated with the commerce ministry during the China Global Think Tank Innovation Forum 2021 held by CCG.

China can also consider inviting certain EU politicians to visit the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to ease political tensions, Huo added.
