MNI BRIEF: US May Be Nearer Max Employment Than Thought-Barkin

Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin said Thursday the U.S. may be closer to full employment than he assumed earlier this year and he supports normalizing monetary policy.

“We had a very hot labor market but not more people in it,” he said during an online panel talk, and the slower growth of labor supply after schools re-opened was a bit of a surprise. “I’m supportive of normalizing policy as we are doing.”
