MNI China Press Digest, March 9: Virus, 5G, Crude Price

BEIJING (MNI) - The following lists highlights from Chinese press reports
on Tuesday:
China reported 19 new cases of coronavirus on Monday and 17 of these cases
were in the epicentre of Hubei Province, according to the National Health
Commission of China. Beijing and Guangdong each reported one case, both of which
originated overseas, the authority said. Other provinces outside of Hubei have
not reported domestically originated cases for three consecutive days.
China will have more than 600,000 5G stations by the end of 2020, an
infrastructure investment which is a key to boost the economy amid the hit from
the coronavirus outbreak, according to 21st Century Business Herald. The Herald
reported that China already has 150,000 stations in operation and the aggregate
investment in 5G will reach CNY1.2 trillion by 2025.
People in China should watch out for the spill-over effect from plummeting
crude oil prices, according to a front page commentary in Economic Information
Daily. Big declines in crude oil prices will increase downward pressure on
prices in oil-importing countries, making economic recovery and growth more
difficult, the Daily said.
