MNI: China's Jan Manufacturing Maintains Strength: Caixin PMI

MNI (Beijing)
BEIJING (MNI) - China's manufacturing activities extended its strength into
January from December while monthly growth rate of output surged to a 13-month
high, according to the Caixin Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the
manufacturing industry released on Thursday on Caixin's website.
Caixin's January manufacturing PMI registered 51.5, unchanged from
December. For a seventh month, the index remained above 50, which divides
expansion and contraction.
New orders quickened for a 19th month, but at a slower pace than December.
Growth in new export sales also eased slightly, Caixin said without providing
the figures.
Prices of raw material input rose at the slowest pace in five months, but were
still "noticeable" to survey respondents, Caixin said. Meanwhile, output prices
rose at the slowest pace since June 2017.
Respondents reported the most "widespread" optimism in four month on one-year
outlook, according to Caixin's statement.
Unlike the official manufacturing PMI released by CFLP/NBS yesterday, which
tracks larger businesses, Caixin PMI focuses on small and mid-sized companies.
The CFLO/NBS PMI for January fell to 51.3, the weakest in eight months, which
the surveyors attributed to slower output growth and softening overseas demand.
