MNI has just published our latest US Inflation Insight, which is available on the MNI Research Website.
- The CPI deceleration seen in July suggests the price surge in most of the pandemic reopening-related categories has peaked.
- Whether July's report confirms the peak of inflation readings overall remains to be seen. There are at least three narratives to the path ahead that are emerging: 'transitory', 'broadening', and something in between.
- Perhaps the biggest factor in the path of inflation is the trajectory of shelter prices, which are likely to provide a tailwind to core CPI for the next year at least.
