Year-to-date borrowing rose to GBP 127.9bn in June, which is GBP 103.9bn higher
than in Jun 2019 and the largest borrowing in any Apr to Jun period since
records began in 1993. Debt to GDP (excl. BOE) jumped to 99.6% which is the
highest debt to GDP ratio since the financial year ending Mar 1961. Borrowing
recorded the third highest rate on record at GBP 35.5bn, approximately 5-times
more than in Jun 2019. May borrowing (ex BOE) was revised down by GBP 9.8bn to
GBP 45.465bn as tax receipts and national insurance contribution were stronger
than previously estimated.
