All timings subject to change.

Monday 2 November:

  • United Kingdom: Prime Minister Boris Johnson due to deliver a lengthy address to the House of Commons on the new COVID-19 lockdown that comes into force at midnight on Thursday 5 November. PM expected to speak at just after 1530GMT (1030ET, 1630CET).
  • EU-UK: Negotiators from the EU and UK will continue talks over a free trade agreement. Talks took in Brussels over the weekend and last through to the middle of the week. On October 30, chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier said "much remains to be done" to reach a deal, but the small amounts of information coming from the talks seem to indicate more positive progress being made than in previous months. Negotiators seeking to 'tunnel' the talks, meaning there will be little comment from either side on the progress of talks in the coming days and weeks.
  • Germany:Country enters a month-long 'lockdown light' that sees restaurants, bars, and other hospitality and entertainment sectors shut down, but schools, hairdressers and other non-essential shops remain open. Germany has recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, but the country's hospitalisations and fatalities remain well below those of similar-sized peers.
  • Brazil:Public holiday for All Souls' Day.
