Democrat Mary Peltola secured a shock win in yesterday's special election for Alaska's at-large congressional seat, defeating former governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Nick Begich III, the grandson of a former Alaska Congressman, in the state's first ranked-preference congressional vote.

  • The vote took place under a ranked preference system with three candidates contesting the vote. In the first round, no candidate crossed the 50%+1 of the vote required to avoid a second round.
