MXN Remains Firm Despite Greenback Strength Overnight

  • USDMXN is continuing its downward trajectory, maintaining the week’s bearish theme. The pair has breached both the 20- and 50-day EMAs, signalling potential for a deeper short-term pullback. The next support, residing at 20.4668, 76.4% of the recent rally between Feb 23 - Mar 8, has been tested overnight and will remain the focus in today’s session.
  • Limited data on the docket until next Thursday where not only will markets receive the latest decision from Banxico, but latest CPI and retail sales figures will also be released.
  • Mexico to host its Oil Expropriation Day with an event in Minatitlan, Veracruz, which will include President AMLO, Pemex CEO Octavio Romero Oropeza and Energy Minister Rocio Nahle. Event scheduled to start at 11am Mexico City time and will be live-streamed.
  • Additionally, at 9am: Fitch Ratings event on credit risks if Mexico approves AMLO’s energy reform.
