NATGAS: EC Not involved in Ukraine Transit Talks
NATGAS
The European Commission is not involved in any talks to facilitate continued transit of natural gas via Ukraine, Ditte Jorgensen, director general for energy said, cited by Bloomberg.
- Some government and company officials are in discussions about potential flows from Azerbaijan through Russia and Ukraine to replace the expiring Gazprom deal.
- Negotiations were continuing as of last week, Bloomberg said.
- The Czech Republic earlier cautioned that that any flows next year could still contain Russian molecules, potentially undermining EU efforts to decouple energy supplies from the Kremlin.
- An erroneous headline last week said that a deal had already been agreed, but it was later confirmed not to be the case. The headline had an immediate downward effect on gas prices.
