The European Commission is not involved in any talks to facilitate continued transit of natural gas via Ukraine, Ditte Jorgensen, director general for energy said, cited by Bloomberg.

  • Some government and company officials are in discussions about potential flows from Azerbaijan through Russia and Ukraine to replace the expiring Gazprom deal.
  • Negotiations were continuing as of last week, Bloomberg said.
  • The Czech Republic earlier cautioned that that any flows next year could still contain Russian molecules, potentially undermining EU efforts to decouple energy supplies from the Kremlin.
  • An erroneous headline last week said that a deal had already been agreed, but it was later confirmed not to be the case. The headline had an immediate downward effect on gas prices.
