NATGAS: German Gas Demand Fell 2.9% w/w in Week to July 28

NATGAS

German natural gas consumption in the week to July 28 fell 2.9% from the previous week and was 17.8% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand fell 4.3% from the previous week while demand from households and small businesses was up 5.3%.

  • Industrial gas consumption fell to 995GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 968GWh and 19.6% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses rose to 197GWh/d last week, compared to 232GWh/d in 2023 and 7.9% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 20.5% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are up to 89.4% full on July 31 from 88.1% a week earlier with below normal injection rates since July 23.
