NATGAS: US Gas Storage Estimated at Eight Year High Ahead of Winter Season

U.S. natural gas storage is on track to end the April-October summer injection season at an eight-year high, according to a Reuters survey of analyst.

  • Storage is estimated up to 3.939tcf on Oct. 31 with a range between 3.76tcf and 4.136tcf and compared to 3.809tcf at the end of summer 2023.
  • The previous five-year average is 3.747tcf and the current record high from 2016 is 4.013tcf.
  • Analysts project stores to fall to the lowest in three years at 1.746tcf on March 31 at the end of the November 2024-March 2025 winter withdrawal season. The previous five-year average is 1.874tcf and gas storage was at an eight-year high of 2.289tcf at the end of the winter in 2024.
  • Lower 48 states had a design capacity of 4.666tcf in 384 active storage fields in November 2023, according to federal data.
