Natural Gas Slide Helps Non-Core Price Pressures Moderate

US
  • Henry Hub natural gas prices have dropped 12.2% to $3.930 today, currently on track for the largest one day decline since Jun 30 and through 2022 lows seen in January before the Ukraine war.
  • That corresponds to a 35% decline on a month ago, piped gas services having a 0.97% relative importance in the US CPI basket.
  • Admittedly the CPI impact is not clear cut, with it depending on how its passed through to consumers and seasonality considerations, but nevertheless at the margin adds to downward price pressures from non-core CPI components.
