Negative Pricing Hrs in Netherlands Up On Year

The Netherlands has recorded around 347Hrs of negative prices over 1 Janaury-14 August, up from 316Hrs across 2023, with this number expected to rise between 450-550Hrs by then of this year, Dutch Strategy, said, cited by PV Magazine.

  • The growth is due to additional solar and wind capacity, "but will depend on further development of gas prices" with this number expected to climb between 800-1,200Hrs in 2026 and range between 1,000-1,500Hrs between 2027-29.
  • “Producers are expected to increasingly avoid selling on a day-ahead basis when prices are negative, “Strategy said.
  • In 2020, the average negative price was -€9.57/MWh before climbing to -€26.06/MWh in 2023, with the average this year so far -€22.26/MWh.
