Nigeria’s Dangote Begins ULSD Production: Platts

OIL PRODUCTS

Nigeria’s 650k b/d Dangote refinery has started production of ULSD, a company official said July 23, cited by Platts.

  • ULSD has a sulphur content of 10ppm and meets European standards. It is less sulphurous that the 50ppm permitted in a number of WAF countries.
  • Dangote began making gasoil of around 650ppm in April as it awaited the startup of more sophisticated refining units.
  • Dangote has exported 23 gasoil cargoes to date, mainly to other WAF countries.
  • The announcement comes as Nigeria’s downstream regulator alleged that Dangote’s product was inferior to imported cargoes with content around 650-1,200ppm.
  • By 2027, Dangote is expected to yield 38% diesel. This should cut the WAF gasoil by around 180k b/d by 2026 compared to 2023 levels.
