NSA Sullivan Holds Call With Russian Counterpart Patrushev

US-RUSSIA

Interfax has reported that a call has taken place today between US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

  • Bloomberg's Ann Marie Hordern said that Sullivan intended to use the call to directly warn the Kremlin not to use chemical or biological weapons.
  • In response, Patrushev reportedly called on the US to stop supply of weapons to Ukraine.
  • The call comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered an address to the US Congress urging more military support for Ukraine.
  • Phil Stewart of Reuters cited a Russian council statement claiming that Sullivan said he had encouraged Ukraine to pursue a diplomatic settlement in its conflict with Russia.
  • This follow a moderate uptick in positivity over the prospect of a diplomatic resolution to the war.
