US PREVIEW: NY Fed issued it's Underlying Inflation Gauge (UIG) for 2019 Friday
(gauge "captures sustained movements in inflation from information contained in
a broad set of price, real activity, and financial data" NY Fed staff explains).
- The UIG "'full data set' measure decreased from a currently estimated 2.92% in
November to 2.80% in December. The "prices-only" measure increased from 1.99% in
November to 2.01% in December."
- The two data sets compare to the "twelve-month change in the December CPI was
+1.9%, a 0.3 percentage point decline from November. The UIG measures currently
estimate trend CPI inflation to be approximately in the 2.0% to 2.8% range. Both
measures have declined in the second half of the year reflecting the softening
of the CPI."
