OIL

The Czech Republic is aiming to halt Russian oil supplies no later than the first half of 2025 according to Prime Minister Petr Fiala cited by Reuters.

  • State pipeline firm MERO is due to complete a capacity upgrade on the Transalpine Pipeline (TAL) to 8m tons of crude a year. TAL runs from Italy to Germany and joins the IKL pipeline from Germany to the Czech Republic.
  • MERO and the TAL pipeline company last year agreed a deal to boost the pipeline capacity by up to 4m tons enabling the replacement of existing supplies via the Druzhba pipeline from Russia.
  • TAL technological upgrades will finish this year followed by a period of testing, Fiala said.
  • More than half of the crude consumption at the two Orlen refineries of 7.4m tons in 2023 arrives via Druzhba.
