Libya’s 120k b/d Zawiya refinery is totally offline due to an electricity failure, sources told Platts Sep. 24.

  • This will worsen the country’s fuel crisis and pile further pressure on the country’s struggling oil sector.
  • The refinery runs on light, sweet crude from the Sharara and El-Feel fields and is operated by a subsidiary of NOC.
  • One of the units was already offline for maintenance when a second went out of service due to an electrical fault.
  • It is not clear if exports were continuing at the Zawiya port, but a source told Platts that output at the Sharara field is just 90k b/d.
